OK, we're down to the top 10 on AMERICA'S GOT TALENT!  (this is Colleen here)  I guess my fave to win right now is "FIGHTING GRAVITY" because their act is such a cool visual.  I could totally see this group with a show in Las Vegas.  What's up with "PRINCE POPPYCOCK?"  I just don't see the talent there...would YOU pay to see him sing for an hour???!!  Torture!  Anywhooo...we'll see with the big finale next week!

We'll see you this Saturday night, 9/11 for the big OCHOCO SUMMER JAM, starring Daryl Worley.  It's at Crook Co. Fairgrounds in Prineville.  Get ticket info at:

It was another great camping adventure last weekend.  Check out the photos of Colleen's rainbow trout on our Facebook page:  "Cook And Colleen In The Morning".  Since she has been skunked the last couple of fishing trips, it was definitely HER day to catch and not just fish.  She caught 4, threw back 3 smaller fish, our friends each caught one.  Michael:  0 fish!  But, it was a fun day.

We have other fun photos on our Facebook page, too.  Photos from our recent Vegas trip, family photos and more.  Check it out!

Here's the Las Vegas billboard featuring our son's band, Larry And His Flask.

I know it's hard to see, it's a small photo.  The Flask logo is under the Dropkick Murphys header.  It's still pretty cool!

We're back from vacation and hittin' the ground runnin'!  Listen to win FREE tickets for you and 3 of your friends to see Brad Paisley and Darius Rucker on the H2O World Tour!  This great show hits the Sleep Country Amphitheater Friday night September 10th and you and your gang could be there on us, with dinner before the show and an overnight stay!  We'll have lots of chances for you to "get in to win"!

Congratulations Kristen Johns of Redmond!  Kristen was our GRAND PRIZE WINNER, as KSJJ 102.9 pays her bills to $1,000!  She needed some help with her credit card AND getting to Las Vegas to see Garth Brooks, so that $1,000 is gonna really help out.

Our son, Ian, with Larry And His Flask!  See them live at the Domino Room, on Greenwood in Bend, this Friday night, May 14th.  It's $8 at the door, open at 7pm with an 8pm start.  There's three opening acts plus LAHF.  FOUR bands for eight bucks - not bad!

Wow, it was a fairly nice weekend around Central Oregon!  We're getting that spring fever to get out camping!  Hopefully, if the weather holds and we can get it all together, we'll go out the first weekend in May with some friends.  CABIN FEVER!  Of course, that means all the yard work and weeds will have to wait, but that's OK.  The priority right now is to save our sanity and get out in the woods!

Heads up - Mother's Day is only 2 weeks away, Sunday May 9th.  Listen to KSJJ 102.9 to win a $1,000 SHOPPING SPREE AT THE OLD MILL DISTRICT!  That would make mom happy!

It's opening weekend of trout fishing season - GOOD LUCK to all you anglers.  Kids Fish Fair continues the tradition at Firemen's Lake in Redmond.  Take the kids, 13 and younger,  fishing Saturday, April 24th from daylight to 2pm and have some fun!

For all the moms this Mother's Day:

Everything Mom

How did you find the energy, Mom
To do all the things you did,
To be teacher, nurse and counselor
To me, when I was a kid.

How did you do it all, Mom,
Be a chauffeur, cook and friend,
Yet find time to be a playmate,
I just can’t comprehend.

I see now it was love, Mom
That made you come whenever I'd call,
Your inexhaustible love, Mom
And I thank you for it all.

Hey, we hope you had a great Easter weekend...wasn't the egg hunt at the Old Mill District a hoot?  It's always fun to see the little ones running around as fast as they can to collect as many eggs as they can!  Since we don't have little ones anymore, and our grandson is in the Seattle area, Colleen gives the 23 year old kid an easter basket full of CANDY and an I-tunes card.  Music & chocolate...his favorites :-)

You still have chances to get in on our fly away to Las Vegas and the Academy of Country Music Awards!  It was just announced that all eight nominees for ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR will perform - and YOU could be there to see it all!  Just listen for your cue to call in and qualify!  It's all part of the BIG $40,000 give away from KSJJ 102.9!!

We have some fun and surprises planned for St. Patrick's Day - Erin Go Braugh!  Colleen is of Irish descent, and it's a HUGE day for her.  Everyone is a bit Irish on St. Paddy's, so be sure to join us for a big morning on the 17th.  We'll have fun prizes, special guests and more!

Cabin fever has set in!!  We're still looking for a break in the weather to get BIG MAMA the motorhome de-winterized and out for some CAMPING.  It could happen in March, we'll see.  The earliest we've ever been out is mid April - and even then we ran into snow.  We'll probably get her ready, stock her up and sit in the driveway!  Saves on gas anyway...

We're definitely looking forward to the C.O. Sportsman Show, at the Deschutes County fairgrounds March 11th - 14th.  Listen to win your 4 pack of tickets.  Colleen should probably take part in one of those casting seminars, she needs a few tips!  R.L. will be there Saturday, the 13th, with a live broadcast - stop by and say HI!

We were talking about our son, Ian, on the air today.  His band, LARRY & HIS FLASK, are on tour - opening for the national act from Boston, "Dropkick Murphys".  They're playing the House Of Blues in Atlantic City, Dallas, and other big venues for the first time!  It's exciting stuff.  Check out their website:  www.larryandhisflask.com     And, check out this cool video of the band on the road:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTt_nY0dOAU

Happy trails to LARRY & HIS FLASK - stay safe y'all, we love you!

We're watching the winter Olympic games and wishing we were in Vancouver!  What a beautiful city, and we've never been there.  Actually, going anywhere right now would be kinda nice.  CABIN FEVER!!!  Know what I mean?  We don't really have anything planned until late March, when we will visit family in the Seattle area and celebrate our grandson's (Parker) second birthday.  So, until then....turn on the tube and pass the popcorn!

Have a great Valentine's Day weekend!  If you don't have a sweetie, treat yourself to something special...like a heart shaped pizza...or a big box of chocolates!

I'm hoping for diamonds, myself!  (this is Colleen writing this).  I kinda doubt the diamond fairy will visit this Valentine's Day - but I may get a really yummy bar-b-q dinner :-)

Have a good one!

The winter blahs got ya down, bunky?  Keep listening to qualify for that ULTIMATE BIG GAME GIVE AWAY!  The 50" Panasonic flat screen HD flat screen TV, leather Lazy Boy recliner, and Subway party platter for the BIG GAME this Sunday!  We'll announce the winner Wednesday morning, February 3rd - good luck!

Plus, "LOVE WEEK" kicks off February 8th with lots of fun things planned and great give aways for Valentine's Day!

We're really excited about Sunday's Superbowl game - it should be a great battle between the Colts and the Saints.  We'll be slammin' a ham on the traeger and heading to a friend's house to watch the game, eat, drink and be merry!  Congrats to our "Ultimate Big Game Giveaway" GRAND PRIZE WINNER, Deanna West.  She and her family will be watching the big game on that 50" flat screen HD TV from Stereo Planet - chowing down on the Subway party platter and kicking back in their new LEATHER LAZYBOY RECLINER!  What a score!

Season nine of American Idol starts tonight!  We can't wait to see the new crop of Idol hopefuls.  Of course, the audition process is a bit painful...but that's half the fun.  You've probably heard this is Simon's last year as judge on American Idol.  Who in the world do you think can replace Simon Cowell?  We WILL be able to see him as a judge on his new show, "The X Factor", starting next year.  So you can still get your Simon fix!  Happy Idol viewing - listen to us the day after each show for the American Idol replay.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  It was great to see y'all at the Buck 'N Ball Invitational on New Year's Eve - what a night!  The rough stock rodeo was exciting, and Countryfied was awesome as our house band this year.  All the kids seemed to be having fun - thanks to "Bouncing Off The Walls" for bringing the bounce houses!  We can't wait to do it again next year!

Michael's new year's resolution is to become fabulously wealthy and move to the Swiss Alps...where he will raise yaks.  waitaminute!!!!  That's crazy talk!

Colleen just wants to try to live more healthfully - probably a more realistic resolution.

So, who's going to Superbowl this year?  It sure isn't our team - the Seattle Seahawks.  We're trying to remain the ardent fans we've always been, but I'll tell ya, it ain't been easy this season!

Don't miss the Summit High Skyliner Jazz Choir live on the show tomorrow morning! (Thursday.) They'll do a couple of holiday favorites at 7:10 and 7:20 and they are great! This will get you in the holiday spirit.

For several months now we've been connecting you with Oregon soldiers deployed in Iraq with the Oregon Army National Guard.  It's been great to talk with our troops and share the interviews with you on the KSJJ Troop Line.  If you would like to send a holiday care package to them, the address is below.  Here's the SPECIAL REQUEST:  They have plenty of toiletries right now, they would love snack items and quart size baggies.  We would also suggest a holiday card, perhaps thanking them for the great job they do!  Send packages to our Oregon Army National Guard Troops in Iraq to:

It was great to see everybody at the Redmond Starlite Holiday parade over the weekend!  Check out the photos - go the "features" tab and select "photo gallery".  Be sure to come to the Bend Christmas parade this Saturday, December 5th!  We'll all be there to host, in fact, R.L. is celebrating his 30th year of hosting the Bend Christmas parade!  WOW!  The parade starts at noon.

Be sure to listen and get qualified for the $1,000 HOLIDAY SHOPPING SPREE AT THE OLD MILL DISTRICT!  Spend that grand at any store, restaurant, or gallery - or at the movie theater - or at the TICKET MILL for shows, concerts and more!  Just listen for your cue to call and be caller number 9 to qualify!  Good luck!

Congratulations Stephanie Ligon of Sunriver!  Stephanie is the Garth Brooks GRAND PRIZE WINNER.  She and her husband, John, will be flying to Las Vegas - 4 days, 3 nights on the strip at Planet Hollywood AND they'll have tickets to the SOLD OUT Garth Brooks concert December 12th!  It's the honeymoon they never had, PLUS just in time for their 13th wedding anniversary - it doesn't get any better than that!  Congrats Stephanie, have fun and take lots of photos for us!

We're looking forward to seeing you at this year's Redmond Holiday Parade! Join us Saturday evening, November 28th at 5pm on 6th Street.  The theme this year is "A Christmas Story" - we'll be hosting the parade, once again, right under the new downtown arch.  If you'd like to enter your organization or business in the parade, call the Redmond Chamber of Commerce at 923-5191.

Let's kick off the Christmas season together - see you at the Redmond parade!

WOW!  What a show!  It was "Taylor Swift" night on the CMA Awards.  She won every category in which she was nominated, including Entertainer of the Year.  That's country music history, my friends - 19 years old is the youngest artist to ever win that top honor!  Reba looked great! It's always good to see her perform.  And, George Strait actually moved around on stage :-)  Hunter Kelly was with us on the morning show today with all the backstage scoop LIVE from Nashville, thanks to Hunter for all the great reports.

We're looking forward to the CMA awards show Wednesday night, November 11th!  It's "Country's Biggest Night", with ALL of our favorite country stars performing during the three hour show!  Be sure to join us the next morning, Thursday, the 12th for special backstage coverage from ABC Nashville correspondent, Hunter Kelly.  Hunter will have all the details, including the cool info about the behind the scenes action we won't get to see on the show!

Hey!  We're putting together a special "Haunted Central Oregon" week for Halloween.  So, we're looking for YOUR ghost stories!  Have you had a strange experience anywhere here in central Oregon?  Give us a call, we'd love to hear your story.  Catch us in the studio from 5am to 10am Monday through Friday at 330-0103.

Please join us this Saturday, October 10th for the COOK AND COLLEEN CAMPOUT FOR THE KIDS OF 4-H!  This year we'll be at Country Feed & Pet Supply on American Lane in Bend from 9am to 3pm!  Stop by to say hi and donate to 4-H programs and scholarships, then stay for the fun!  We'll have a hay maze, games, food, live music, a cookie baking contest with a $100 grand prize, and much more!  You can also donate at Oregon Feed & Irrigation on south Hiway 97 in Redmond, Round Butte Seed in Prineville, Culver and Bend, and High Lakes Feed in Lapine.

See you Saturday for this fun annual fundraiser for tri-county 4-H - THE COOK AND COLLEEN CAMPOUT FOR THE KIDS!

Gee, what a difference a week makes!  We went out camping last weekend, it was hot and beautiful.  This weekend, it snows 7 or 8 inches in the Bend area and in the higher elevations.  Wonder if this predicts a hard winter in Central Oregon?  You just never know.

We spent our Sunday afternoon assembling our indoor Halloween decorations.  As you may know, Michael is a true Halloween FREAK.  We have accumulated a lot of Halloween stuff over the years and it takes a while to get them all displayed to Michael's liking.  :-)  I just smile - it's like living with a perpetual 7 year old boy!

Hey!  Went out to Walton Lake over the weekend for some camping and fishing.  The campground is closed for renovation through next year, but we know of some places nearby that we like.  You can walk into the lake until October 18th to fish.  At that time, they will treat the lake to kill off bullheads and catfish that are overtaking the lake.

So, we got down to the lake about 10:30am, Michael caught 5 bullheads in a row.  Nothing else seemed to be biting, and about 2pm we almost called it quits until later in the afternoon/evening.  Then, the trout started biting!  It was awesome, our friend Heather landed a 12 incher.  Colleen got a lunker on, the line snapped and thanks to Michael's diving save, we snagged that sucker!  It was a 16" to 18" rainbow, the largest trout we've ever caught in Walton Lake.  And the best tasting trout and eggs breakfast we've ever had!

We're taking a couple of vacation days after Labor Day to head up to the Seattle area to see our grandson, Parker and the rest of Colleen's family.  We can't wait to see the little guy, he's almost 18 months old now!  We'll spend a few days on the rainy side of the mountains...yes, the weather forecast looks cloudy and drizzly - in the Puget Sound area?  Of course!

Heads up - come mid-September or so, KSJJ has some AWESOME give aways planned.  We can't talk about it yet, but you'll definitely want to stay tuned!

CROCK POT COOKIN'!!

We were asked to post this crock pot recipe after we mentioned it on the air.  This is easy, inexpensive, and REALLY yummy.

CROCK POT SPANISH RICE

1 to 2 lbs of ground beef

1 small onion, coarsly chopped

1 to 2 green peppers, coarsly chopped

1 28 oz can of tomatoes

1 8 oz can of tomato sauce

1 cup water

2 1/2 teaspoons chili powder

2 teaspoons salt

2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce

1 cup of raw rice

dash of tabasco (if you like it spicy!)

brown beef, onion and green pepper.  drain off fat.  put all ingredients in the crock pot.  stir throroughly cover and cook on low 7 to 9 hours or on high 3 hours

Enjoy with warm french bread and a green salad!

Stop on out at Robberson Ford on Saturday, september 19th for the Tailgate sale for some killer deals on Ford trucks and SUV's. We'll have some cool prizes, too! See ya there.

We're lookin' to go put camping next weekend as we're running out of nice weather.

Big Mama is loaded and ready to go so it's load the fridge and a few clothes and we're off! See ya on the funway!

Since it's been so hot, we've been cooking on the grill A LOT!  How about a recipe for grilled pizza?

Use your favorite toppings on this quick and easy pizza cooked on the grill.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 9 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 can refrigerated pizza crust
  • 2 tsp. olive oil
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tomatoes, seeded and chopped

Preparation:

Prepare and heat grill. Tear off 18" x 12" piece of heavy duty aluminum foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Place dough on foil and press to form 13" x 9" rectangle. Brush with oil. Invert dough onto grill and peel foil off the back of the dough. Cook over medium heat, 4-6" from coals for 3-5 minutes until dough is golden brown.

Turn crust over, using large spatula. Spread pizza sauce, tomatoes, and cheese over browned dough, adding more ingredients if you'd like. Grill 4-5 minutes longer until bottom of crust is well browned and cheese is melted. 4 servings

We're taking our motorhome "Big Mama" out to stay at our friends house at Crooked River Ranch this Saturday for a bar-b-q so it's kinda like camping. It'll be the first time our new dog LuLu has gone out with us, so we'll see how she does. I think she'll be fine 'cause she and Maggie have really bonded. Maggie needed a buddy, but it does make twice the amount of dog bombs in the yard. We're planning a trip up to Seattle/Tacoma to see family over the Labor Day weekend and a chance to take a road trip in the new rig! See you on the Funway! Love ya.

Well, we got our new Ford Escape from Robberson Ford and it's beautiful. We tried out the phone sync and called both of our boys to chat...OK, brag a little on our new rig.

We went out for a picnic in the woods west of Sisters on Saturday but I wouldn't take the Escape because it's too dusty out there! Colleen said I never cared what the old Explorer looked like. Well Yeah, it was OLD! If you've got an old clunker we'd highly recommend seeing Robberson Ford and make a deal.

WE DID IT!  We got cash for our "clunker" and a new rig!  We have been driving our 1994 Ford Explorer for 11 years.  The poor old girl is very tired.  So, when we found out it qualified for a trade in of $4,500 we RAN down to Robberson Ford in Bend to test drive a 2009 Ford Escape.  This is a smaller four wheel drive SUV with  better gas mileage.  The folks at Robberson Ford were awesome, and they made the "Cash For Clunkers" program easy!  We made the deal and will pick up our NEW car today.  We haven't owned a new car in our 23 years of marriage, so we're excited.

We've been asked for this egg casserole recipe that we talked about on the air.  So here it is:

12 eggs

2 cups milk

5 - 6 english muffins

1/2 C sweet onion

1/4 sweet red pepper (if you like)

1 lb bulk pork sausage or 3/4 to 1 lb bacon

1 8 oz bag of shredded cheese (I like the colby/monterey jack combo)

Break up the english muffins into 1 inch cubes and cover the bottom of a greased 9" X 13" pan.  Cook the meat, onion and pepper.  Combine the beaten eggs and milk.  Add cooked meat and veggies on top of the english muffins.  Cover with egg and milk mixture.  Cover all with cheese.  Refridgerate overnight.  Bring it out and let sit for 30 minutes.  Bake at 350 to 375 for 45 to 55 minutes.  Check it often toward the end of cooking time to make sure the cheese isn't getting too brown.  Let sit for 15 minutes, cut and enjoy!  This makes about 8 servings - great for when company is over!

Use meat or not...make it vegetarian.  You could even add cooked shrimp and top with white cheese, like monterey jack.  I would suggest lightly steaming hard veggies first, like broccoli.

Wow! We've been so busy at all the summer events we haven't had a chance to update ya'll here on the blog. It was great to see everyone at the Chuck Wicks show at Jefferson County Fair. This weekend wraps up the Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo so we'll see you at the parade in Redmond at 10, the 4-H building at the fair at noon and Jimbo and RL are at the Chute 9 parties after the rodeos.

Our new doggie LuLu is working out great! She and Maggie get along really well and play together with their stuffy toys. She has learned to sit, stay and shake so we're going through cookies like crazy. Now we'll see how she does out camping as we'll try to get out again in early August...wow August already!

The kid, Ian is still out on the road with the band. We think he's in Chicago but we'll have to check their myspace page to be sure, that's how we track him! Check out myspace.com/larryandhisflask to see and hear the band. We'll see you on the Funway as another hot summer in Central Oregon continues.

We will see you in downtown Redmond for the 4th of July parade on the all new 6th street upgrade. As always, Butch Ramsey provides his travelling broadcast trailer for the event and this year we are located by the new Redmond Archway between Evergreen and Deschutes on 6th. The parade starts at 10am. We'll see you there! Have a safe and fun 4th of July!

Starting on July 11th we'll be on vacation and camping in BIG MAMA, our motorhome. Look for us out on the road, we'll be the ones towing a camo Samurai! Hard to miss that! See ya on the Fun-Way!

Here is the "fall off the bone" pork spare rib recipe we talked about on the air today (thanks to the listener who called this in!)  This does require a traeger or other smoking grill:

1 rack of pork spare ribs

1 bottle of your favorite bar-b-q sauce

dry rub of your choice (not required, but it DOES taste good)

1 disposable foil pan

foil wrap

Rub the rack (if you like) and smoke meat side down for 1 1/2 hours

Take the ribs off the grill and turn up the grill from smoke to 325 degrees

Place the rack in the foil pan and slather them with sauce...lots of it!

Cover the foil pan with foil wrap

Cook on 325 for another 2 to 2 1/2 hours

Let stand for a few minutes, cut 'em up and enjoy!

We had a great time hosting the 69th annual Sisters Rodeo on Saturday. It was a beautiful morning for a parade. KSJJ won 1st place in the parade and got a really cool trophy! Check it out in the photo gallery. We made a little headway in the jungle that is our yard. OK, I appreciate the free lawn waterings we've been getting but enough already, the weeds are winning. Next up is the Bite of Bend on Saturday and Sunday and then another great rodeo with the Crooked River Round-up the 26th, 27th and 28th in Prineville. We'll be talking with this year's CCR Rodeo queen later in the week, so be listening! Also,be listening this week for information on the free lunch program at area schools. It's a great way to feed the kids during summer vacation and save on your budget! You know we always keep you informed about what's going on around our commuities, so keep on listening! We love you!

OMG! Kris Allen won American Idol! Colleen was siding with Simon that it would be Adam Lambert but you never know how the final vote will go. Nearly 100 million of us put our 2 cents worth in. We need to get a life! Next up will be America's Got Talent in a few weeks and we have some inside info about a possible local contestant. Listen to Cook & Colleen in the morning to find out more.

We are heading out Friday for a couple days in the Puget Sound area to see family, as we said above. Get to see the grandson and eat and drink too much. Sounds like fun, huh? Have a great Memorial Day weekend and we'll talk to you Monday morning.

As of this writing we have NOT seen the new Star Trek movie. I know, I know…Colleen thought I’d be camped out at the theater. But I will see it and report my opinion. Keep listening to Cook & Colleen in the morning to win more movie passes courtesy of Regal Cinemas.

As you probably know Oregon Army National Guard troops from Central Oregon have been deployed to Iraq and starting this week we’ll be talking with our local soldiers as they prepare to go into action. This is a great way to stay connected with your friends and loved ones who may be among those being deployed. Stay tuned!

Memorial Day week end is coming up and Colleen and I, along with son Ian and his girlfriend Randi are going up to Seattle to see our other son Aaron, his wife Brandi and our grandson Parker! They are visiting from Hawaii. We haven’t seen Parker since he was a few months old and now he’s over a year old, so we’re excited. Pictures coming soon!

As the weather gets nicer we’ll be out camping as much as possible so if you see Big Mama, our motorhome pulling the camo Sammi…LOOK OUT!
