RL Garrigus Bio: Mornings 5:30 - 10 am & Sunday 11 am - 3 pm
His love affair with radio began when he was a teen, with his first job coming after his Air Force career at KITN Olympia Washington in 1978 He then moved to Bend in 1979, and began work at KICE as News Director for the Radio Rangers. R.L. became part owner of the station, which was eventually sold to The Bend Radio Group.
R.L has won numerous awards locally, statewide and nationally for his news coverage and community involvement and is in the Oregon Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame as the Heritage Broadcaster of the year in 2004. Over his 31 year career he has written and produced over 100 thousand newscasts.
The Bend City Council and Deschutes County Commissioners honored R.L. on January 22nd of 2004, proclaiming the day to be R.L. Garrigus Day which was celebrated by friends and family for his service to the Central Oregon Community. R.L. supports a variety of conservation groups including the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation where he has been a part of the Central Oregon RMEF Committee for 23 years, and the John Day RMEF committee for 18 years.
R.L. is married to his wife Kathie who has put up with him for the past 26 years. They have a lovely daughter, Lacey who is 25, and two beautiful grand children, Timea who is 5 and Tallon who is 4.
So when will Tallon be able to carry a quarter of an Elk out of Desolation for Grandpa???
